From dance costumes to painings and more, explore the wonderful world of dance an theatre at the Dance Museum.

The Dance Museum was founded by Rolf de Maré in 1953. He hoped his museum would become a meeting place for many art forms, blurring the distinctions between dance, theatre, painting and photography. He travelled all over the world collecting artefacts and documenting dance cultures.

The Dance Museum houses this unique collection of authentic costumes, instruments, puppets, photographs and masks from the dance cultures of Asia, Africa and North America. The museum has also one of the world’s leading collections of original dance costumes from the legendary Ballets Russes in Paris as well as a rich collection of items and art from the avant-garde Swedish Ballet – the Ballets Suédois.

Every year, the Dance Museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, live performances and musical experiences!
