Things to see:

Vaxholm City

Vaxholm is an idyllic and cozy harbour town where you walk among the local, charming shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants and easily spend a day. Enjoy the quiet cobbled streets and wooden buildings, typical architecture of the city. Did you know wood was the only building material allowed in Vaxholm by law up until 1912?

Vaxholm Fortress

Vaxholm Fortress (Fästning) is the most impressive historic building in Vaxholm, situated on a small island opposite the town of Vaxholm. The Fortress was built in the 1540's as part of the new defence along the Swedish coast and as a safeguard of Vaxholm and Sockholm, the Swedish capital. The Fortress museum has fascinating exhibits and films teaching you more about the military history of Sweden.
