The Vaxholm Fortress Museum unveils the victorious history of military and archipelago defence since the 16th century, including its two-time win against foreign invasions – namely in 1612 when the Danes attacked, and later in 1719 against the Russians.

Join a guided tour at the museum and learn more about the history of the fortress, as well as what life was like living and working in the fortress as staff, from maids to military men! Go behind the scenes to see Vaxholm Fortress Museum’s beautiful rooms and visit the Citadel’s bombproof vaults and the arrest premises to learn more about the famous fortress prisoner. Visit the exhibition "Life in the Citadel" that tells you about the woman, children and forced laborers at the fortress in the end of the 19th century.
